Introduction
Neuroinflammation is an important pathological feature of epilepsy and other brain diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and stroke (1). Ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) is primarily expressed in astrocytes in the CNS and Schwann cells in the peripheral nervous system (5). In both in vivo and in vitro co-culture, the interaction of normal neurons and astrocytes greatly inhibited the expression of CNTF in astrocytes (6). Horace H.F. Jayne was Director of the University Museum from 1929 to 1939 as a part of a distiguished career in the cultural institutions of Philadelphia. The collection consists of twenty boxes of correspondence related to his duties as Director.
Horace H.F. Jayne was born into a prominent Philadelphia family, distinguished in cultural and educational activites in the city in 1898. He attended the DeLancey School and Episcopal Academy, graduating from Harvard College in 1919.
In 1921, Jayne began working at the Pennsylvania Museum of Art where he developed his dedication to the advancement of museum work and the application of museum collections to education. Jayne traveled to China and the East twice, both as a part of expeditions sponsored by the Fogg Museum at Harvard. He became an avid collector of Asian art.
