Daniel "Colt" McCoy[1] (born September 5, 1986) is an American former professional football player who was a quarterback for 13 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Texas Longhorns, winning several awards and honors as a senior in 2009 and ranking second all-time in games won by an FBS quarterback.[2][3] McCoy was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2010 NFL draft and was also a member of the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, New York Giants, and Arizona Cardinals, primarily being used as a backup.
Early life
[edit]McCoy was born in Hobbs, New Mexico.[4] He is the eldest of three children born to Steven Brad McCoy and Debra Kay (Woodruff) McCoy. He attended Jim Ned High School in Tuscola, Texas,[5] where he was coached in football by his father. He achieved several distinctions as a high school player, including two-time Associated Press 2A Offensive MVP and First-team All-state selection.[5] Over his career, he completed 536-of-849 passes (63.1%) for 9,344 yards and 116 TDs.[5] He ranks as the all-time leading passer in Texas Division 2A high sc

A decorated high school player in the state of Texas, McCoy was recruited to the University of Texas, where he played for coach Mack Brown's Texas Longhorns football team ('05-'09). During his time at UT, Colt was a four-year starter, Walter Camp Award recipient ('08), Heisman Trophy finalist ('09), and four-year team MVP (the only player in school history to do so). One of the winningest quarterbacks, and arguably one of the most well-known college players of all time, in his senior season, McCoy won 13 of the top 15 major college player awards, including quarterback of the year, offensive player of the year and outstanding football player of the year. In the 2010 NFL Draft, McCoy was selected in the 3rd round as the 85th overall pick by the Cleveland Browns.
